Twitch suffers potential security breach
Streaming service sends messages to some users warning of potential unauthorised access
Twitch, the popular streaming service used by gamers to show their exploits, has potentially suffered a serious security breach.
In an email sent to some users over the weekend, Twitch warned that an unauthorised party may have accessed certain accounts. Temporary passwords have been issued, which will need to be reset when users next visit the service.
Here is the email from Twitch:
The service was also hacked almost exactly two years ago, in March 2015. Twitch posted details of the hack, and how users could protect themselves at the time in its blog, however no such post has yet appeared in relation to the newer breach.
According to some reports, users who have signed up to two-factor authentication have also received the same email, suggesting that the message could have been sent as a precaution, rather than as a response to a wide-scale breach, but with no official confirmation yet from Twitch itself, few yet know the true extent of the situation.
Twitch have been contacted for comment, but have yet to respond. This story will updated with further information as it comes in.
