Black Friday: Best graphics card, memory, CPU and monitor deals

SSD and memory prices are falling, which means there are some good deals out there for system builders and upgraders

"Sales", whether Black Friday, January sales or any other kind of sale, have traditionally been used by retailers to offload their overstocked tat and reconditioned rubbish.

Hence, once needs to approach Black Friday with a certain level of circumspection and caution. However, there are some decent deals out there to be had.

The SSD price crash continues with 240GB drives now under £30 - eBuyer's offering the Integral 240GB V series 2 for £27.98, the Kingston A400 for £28.97 and the WD Green SSD for £29.98, both of which are decent bargains if you've got a PC upgrade in mind. It also has the 480GB Kingston A400 for £49.97.

If you want a bit lot more storage, Novatech has the 2TB Intel 660p NVME down from £413.94 to £299.99 or the 1TB at £164.99, and 512GB down to £88.99. That may still be pricey compared to some alternatives but Intel SSDs are arguably among the best money can buy.

Talking of upgrades, eBuyer also has 2666MHz HyperX Fury 16GB DDR4 memory kits at a solid price of £99.99. Or, you can get 8GB of the same stuff for £49.97. If you miss out on that, then Overclockers has some bargain-priced 3000MHz Team Group RAM - 16GB of Vulcan T-Force DDR for £99.95. Eight gigabytes of the stuff comes in at £52.99.

If you're in the market for a new monitor, eBuyer has the Asus VP28UQG 28-inch monitor down from £319.98 to £229.97. That's a 4K gaming monitor boasting a 1ms response time, 60Hz refresh rate and FreeSync technology. However, it is a TN panel which means the viewing angles won't be great.

Alternatively, there's the Acer ET322QKwmiipx 32-inch 4K Ultra-HD monitor for £269.98, although the VA panel should offer better colours and viewing angles, the response time is rated at 4ms. Also, it's an Acer.

There's some decent graphics card savings, too, although with a hangover of stock from the cryptocurrency bust these savings might become permanent savings rather than get-them-if-you-can deals.

Ebuyer has the MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB graphics card for £199.96. This comes pre-overclocked and therefore offers a soupçon more performance than your average GTX 1060. However, Nvidia deals generall don't look as enticing as deals on AMD Radeon RX 570, 580, Vega 56 and Vega 64 cards.

For example, Overclockers has the PowerColor Radeon RX 580 Dragon V2 8GB graphics card down to £199.99, which might be preferable if you're running a FreeSync monitor. Not to be outdone, Amazon has cut the price of the same card to £178.79.

Another decent deal is the Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 56 Pulse 8GB graphics card over at Overclockers, reduced from £398.99 to £314.99 - that's a lot of graphics card for the money; as is the Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 64 Nitro+ at £419.99, down from £499.99, if you want to treat yourself.

Bear in mind the prices these cards went for just six months ago - but also bear in mind that a bunch of new high-end graphics cards from AMD ought to be out in the first half of next year, possibly as early as January.

If you're building your own no-nonsense PC, Novatech has a few bits and bobs worth looking at, starting with the EVGA SuperNOVA 850w P2 ATX power supply. Platinum rated - which means it ought to be highly efficient under load - and boasting those excellent Japanese capacitor designs that every power supply should have, the price has been knocked down from £159.99 to £106.99.

Overclockers also have the excellent Corsair RMx 750w 80+ gold modular power supply down from £124.99 to £84.95.

Alongside that, Novatech has also chopped in half the price of the Fractal Design Celsius S24 240mm open-loop water cooler, down from £99.99 to £49.98 (the 0.98p presumably denoting end of line).

Finally, for CPUs, it's going to be hard to beat £149.99 for an AMD Ryzen 5 2600. This six core, 12 thread CPU is hard to beat at its normal price of £169.99. Unless, that is, you want moar cores then for the same price you can get - also from Overclockers - the Ryzen 7 1700, or the 12-core Threadripper 1920X for £289.99. That's almost half the price it was earlier this year, but will require a special motherboard, or course.
