Microsoft announces Surface Neo, Surface Duo, and other devices at annual hardware event
Surface Duo is a dual-screen Android smartphone that comes with two 5.6-inch screens
Microsoft announced six new Surface-branded devices, including Surface Neo, Surface Duo, and Surface Pro X at its annual autumn hardware event on 2nd October.
While most of the new Surface devices are available to preorder now, some, such as Surface Neo and Surface Duo, won't appear in stores before holiday season next year.
Microsoft Surface Duo
The dual-screen Surface Duo appears to be the most exciting device announced yesterday by Microsoft. This Android smartphone comes with two 5.6-inch screens, which will expand to 8.3 inches. According to Microsoft, this device is still in development and will be released in holiday season next year.
Microsoft Surface Neo
Microsoft Surface Neo is a dual-screen tablet featuring dual 9-inch screens that open up to a 13-inch display. Surface Neo runs Windows 10X - a new version of Windows 10 specifically designed for dual-screen devices. The device is 5.6-mm thick and weighs just 1.4 pounds. Like Duo, Surface Neo won't appear in stores until late 2020.
Surface Laptop 3
Surface Laptop 3 will come in two sizes, 15-inches and 13.5-inches, starting at $1,199 and $999, respectively - and probably around the same price in pounds sterling, including VAT. Both models come with a modular design, enhanced keyboards and trackpads, touchscreen display, and USB-C connections. The 13.5-inch model sports 10th-gen Intel Core processor, while 15-inch variant is powered by new AMD Ryzen Surface Edition processor. Surface Laptop Pro is available to preorder now. The company will start shipping the device from 22nd October.
Microsoft Surface Pro X
Surface Pro X is a Windows tablet and Microsoft's take on Apples iPad Pro. This 13-inch device runs on SQ1 processor, which Microsoft co-designed with Qualcomm. It is the lightest and thinnest Surface Pro device, and is available for preorder, starting at $999. Microsoft will start shipping the device in November.
Microsoft Surface Pro 7
Surface Pro 7 is equipped with new Intel Core Ice Lake processors that come in Core i3, i5 and i7 configurations. The device retains the 12.3-inch display as the Surface Pro 6. It boasts all-day battery, SSD capacity of up to 1TB, and up to 16GB of RAM, among other things. Surface Pro 7 will be offered in silver and black colour options. The device is available for preorder now, starting at $749, and will go on sale starting 22nd October.
Surface Earbuds
These wireless earbuds feature voice and touch controls for music, calls, and "screen-free" integration with Office 365. They will be direct competitors to Samsung's Galaxy Buds and Apple's AirPods and will be released in December at a price of $249.
