Lauren Carne is React Native Software Engineer at Aviva. Lauren joined the company in 2023 during a time of change. She explains

“When I joined Aviva, we were undergoing a major change, transitioning between contractor companies. This period left our team without a clear structure or a tech lead, placing us at a crossroads with critical projects needing attention.

“I stepped up to provide the necessary leadership and direction. One of my primary initiatives was the implementation of “tech details” – a process where technical specifics are added to tickets before sprint planning. This strategy ensures that all potential outcomes of a task were considered upfront, significantly reducing the likelihood of encountering unforeseen challenges during development.

As a result, we have minimised wasted development time and promoted a culture of thorough planning and knowledge sharing. Knowledge sharing is very important to me as we have a lot of new developers on the team and I want to ensure we are all empowered to learn and progress regardless of our age, ethnicity or backgrounds.”

Lauren considers her technical proficiency in React Native and full-stack development as a critical asset, with her deep understanding of software engineering principles and best practices enabling her to make informed decisions, mentor junior developers, and ensure the quality and scalability of Aviva solutions. She continues:

“Furthermore, my experience in training interns and new contractors has equipped me with the skills to nurture talent and build cohesive teams. I take pride in creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their best work.”
