She uses her experience and her ability to inform herself, together with networking with peers. She has sought her own development with academic and technical training over time.

How did you get into IT?

By accident and before IT was invented :)

What do you consider your greatest IT achievement of the last 12 months?

Maintain the business work flows and support users during major transformation in systems.

How do you ensure diversity is taken into account in your IT recruitment?

Interesting question for an older woman. It is a shame that there is still a problem in recruitment of females in technical roles. I would definitely expect the recruitment company to identify and supply the person with the right skills no matter what race, age or sex they are.

Which technology are you currently most excited by, and why?

It may sound strange but I am not particularly excited by any technology. AI is the buzz word, but is just sophisticated machine learning, although not to be underestimated. Office applications are becoming more 'self thinking' and reactive to the user instead of a passive tool. Cyber security is a must for daily life.

What would an outsider find the most surprising part of your job?

The ability to 'hear' the user and the challenges in their work to identify how technology can assist and deliver solutions for them. It's not just about technical solutions, but requires 'soft' skills. A focus on business driven solutions around the people using them.

What's your secret talent?

No secret, just a proud mum of two hardworking daughters who are also working mums. I have skydived though, and would like to wingwalk!

What makes you laugh?

Life and where it takes you sometimes. Better than the alternative.
